Tips before adding Images/Photos
Things to think about when adding an image:
- Be aware that many photos on the web are protected by copyright and require payment for use. The safest option is to only use photos taken by club members. Giving the photographer credit often solves the problem.
- Very important, is it sharp/in-focus?
Whilst you might get away with a blurry image on social media viewed on your phone it will look terrible on a large screen. - Edit the filename to something more useful and descriptive than DCN1763654 before you upload it, but if you forget you can do it on the Assets page.
- Ideally they should be at least 500 pixels on the longest side.
- The perfect size is 1000-1200px, if your image is larger it will be automatically resized down to 1200px on upload.
The special Header photos used on the homepage are an exception and they need to be about 1800 X 500-600px. - Wider or square formats are more flexible than tall/thin.
- Crop the image to focus on the interesting subject, ideally beforehand in an image manipulation app (like Photoshop). It can be done after the image has been uploaded (in Assets, select the image and then click the cog icon at the top and select 'crop image') but you will then end up with a smaller image.
- After you have uploaded an image, double click/tap on it to add a caption and the photographers name.
- The caption and photographer will appear below the photo. The Title is for for system purposes and not public.
You can add a single "Title Image". Choose one to represent the entry, preferably not one with a very tall or wide ratio.
Watch the following video for more details about how to create sub folders and move files between folders, and crop images.
Note. This video was recorded using a previous version of Assets and there have been some changes but essentially it's similar.
